D.M.D Series Post #1: Cosmic Ray's Starglight Cafe is totally out of this world!

First post of the series:

Cosmic Rays's Starlight Cafe is totally out of this world!

So, no trip for me to Disney would be complete without a meal at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe...it is out of this world! Literally! Nestled between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland (walk out one door and you are the tea cups and the other you are about to take off in Tomorrowland!), Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe offers guest a truly unique Disney dining experience. With "live" entertainment and a a variety of eating options, Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe gives you the sit down experience your tired feet crave with the fun of childhood mixed in like only Disney knows how.

So, here is the set up:
There are 3 Bays for which to order your food. The chicken bay, the burger bay, and the sandwich bay. With everything from chicken nuggets to vegetable burgers, everyone is going to be able to find something they like eating. Now the only thing to note about Cosmic Ray's is that only said food may be ordered from said bay (you can only order a 1/2 rotisserie chicken meal from the chicken bay. Although some of the sandwiches overlap if you will, from the burger bay to the sandwich bay). The service is quick and friendly. Here is a look at the menu. The menu is linked to the source from which I found it. That would be http://www.onlywdw.com/. Please take a moment to read their article on Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe as well!

The other thing I really like about Cosmic Ray's is the accoutrent for your culinary selection. There are pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, sauteed onions, delicious sauteed mushrooms. It really lets you personalize your meal. Not only is the food good but, the dining room is spacious (there is even a terrace that looks out on Cinderella Castle) and in the hot heat of the summer the AC is a welcomed plus!
So, now you are probably saying to yourself, "burgers and chicken nuggets, what is so D.M.D worthy of that?".
I'm so glad you asked.
As I mentioned above, Cosmic Ray's offers entertainment. That entertainment comes in the form of an, extraterrestrial animatronic named Sonny Eclipse. He Sings, he tells jokes, he converses like nobodies business...now, now, now, don't go running!! It is truly entertaining and my memories of Sonny and his incredible, but invisible vocal talent of his backup singers, The Space Angels take me back! Hearing some of the oldies but goodies from Sonny and the girls takes me back to my first Disney trips. Those were good times. And that is the reason I keep coming back for this Don't Miss at Disney worthy restaurant!

Here are some Youtube videos I found with Sonny in Action! Enjoy!

Finally, know before you go:

*The magic of Cosmic Ray's is to go at night. I don't know why but, there is something about it.

*Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe counts as a quick service meal if you are only Disney Dining Plan. Quick service meals come with 1 entree, 1 drink, and a dessert (the chocolate cake is AMAZING plus it has rainbow Mickey sprinkles on it!).

*There are NO free drink refills at this restaurant

*If you go during a crowded time of day (mostly peak lunch hours (12-2) and peak dinner hours (6-8)), plan on having one member of you party "secure a table" (if at all possible) and then take turns hitting up the accoutrement station!

*There are seats away from Sonny if you prefer a, quieter location. But, what fun would that be?

*Bear in mind that you can only order what is on each bay menu at that particular bay. So, if you know ahead of time what you are going to eat, divide and conquer.

Let me know your Cosmic Ray memories. I would love to reminisce with you. I hope this inspires you to try out one of my all time D.M.D's!

What am I celebrating?...

I am thrilled to shamelessly plug my own article as a guest blogger on the fabulous A World View...Enjoying Walt Disney World . You need to check it out. This is a fabulous site with lots of great Disney information. One of my favorite parts of this blog is that Bruce (the blogger) features articles from fellow Disney Bloggers. So, you can imagine the delight I felt when I got a message from Bruce asking to feature my post Beat the Heat: A Survival Guide to Florida in the Florida Summer Sun!

Check out the article and the rest of A World View. Also you can vote for this article on www.dismarks.com. I am excited because this is the second post of mine to be featured on this site (and even better, I didn't post either of them :)!). Any rate thanks for reading the blog and spreading the word to your friends!

Where in the WORLD is Club Cool?

I cannot go to Epcot without taking a swing by Club Cool. I mean that. For example, one of the last times I visited Disney World, we had park hopper tickets and for 7 days straight we went to Epcot and due to the hot Florida heat we stopped by Epcot's Club Cool at least twice a day just to refresh! Now, don't get me wrong, we used the tiny Coca-cola cups to sample the beverages (it annoys me to no end when I see people filling up their own water bottles with the drink...that's not the point of this post though). So today I am going to answer some questions about Club Cool. I hope you find this post as refreshing as I find this Epcot favorite!

Q: What is Club Cool?

A: The Coca-Cola Company teamed up with Disney to create an attraction where guests can sample popular coke products from around the world. Club Cool brings drinks to Epcot from Germany, Mexico, Israel, Mozambique,Costa Rica, Italy, China, and Japan. There are some, well...interesting tasting beverages. It is really funny to see the reaction on someones face the very first time they sample Beverly. Now, don't let that keep you from trying it. It's a rite of passage.

Q: Where is Club Cool located?

A: Club cool is located in Innoventions West. I have a map don't worry!

*Club Cool is the star, btw.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Nothing! Club cool is an absolutely free attraction. You can purchase Coca-cola related merchandise (including frozen Coke) and of course Disney merchandise.

Q: How does Club Cool work?

A: There are several stations throughout Club cool with fountain style drink machines. Located to the sides of the machine are bathroom sized Coke cups. Just pick the drink you want to sample and push the button. The correct portion will be dispensed if you like it get some more. If you hate it just throw away the cup and move on to the next drink!

I hope you get to swing by Club Cool on your next trip to Disney World. My favorite flavor is Manzana Lift from Mexico. It is delicious! Want to know more about club cool? Mouse on over!

Following the leader...

So, I have a lot of people reading the blog and sending messages but only 6 followers. Following a blog makes getting updates easier and faster. You should follow. In an attempt to, well, lead the way, I have followed my own stinkin' blog! Here are some quick and easy steps...

1. visit your favorite blog. I'm going to do this for
http://www.istinkinlovedisney.blogspot.com/ and then you can too!

2. Now you are looking for the Follow with Google Friend Connect button. This is located on my blog on the middle to bottom right hand side of the screen.

3. Now all you have to do is click
4. Now select with your preferred service. If you don't have service with any of the listed, google is simple to sign up for. Just click sign up with google and then create an account.
5. Depending on your provider, your process for following will look different. When I followed via google, I had to select a thumbnail picture and that was just about it.
Once you are a follower of
http://www.istinkinlovedisney.blogspot.com/, you can sign up for email updates/news from the blog. The bonus is that if you have a blog, (and you join publicly) people can link to your personal blog and your hits will go up as well.
SO, now that you have the know how, get to it. And once you join
http://www.istinkinlovedisney.blogspot.com/, head over to http://www.brucewdw.blogspot.com/. I am going to be featured on this blog in a few days! More will come for sure. Until next time, have a magical day!...I always wanted to say that!

Wanna go to Disney World with me?

On the real, school starts back for me Thursday and I am thinking that taking the first week off would not be a good idea. So what to do if you can't hop on down to Disney World right now. I got the answer...take a virtual trip on Youtube. I sometimes go on Youtube and search individual rides when I REALLY want to go to Disney World. A couple of months ago (before the blog) I created a Magic Kingdom playlist that includes a few my favorite Magic Kingdom "must do's". I went back and added a few videos yesterday (for example I added Space Mountain which I don't really ride but, what would a trip to the Magic Kingdom be without a ride or in my case, wait for your friends to ride...I can just take a bathroom break while that ride video plays). :)So take a look. I'll put up other parks later. I hope you enjoy this virtual vacation.

oh, by the way, I am pretty sure you can watch only selected videos by skipping through the playlist or you can hit play all and enjoy the ride!

Beat the Heat: A Survival Guide for Disney in the Florida Summer Sun!

It is hot. I mean like real. hot. I live in South Carolina so, I know what summer can be like in the southern half of the country. So with temperatures in the 90s+ (and feels likes in the 100s), how do you beat the heat while visiting the parks? I have a couple of tried and true suggestions that can help you keep cool while vacationing in the most magical place on Earth!

tips to cool you down:

1. Dress light. Wearing something light weight and light in color can help you beat the heat. Here are my suggestions by gender.

I wear a casual sundress or skirts when I visit Disney World in the summer. By nature, most of the sundresses I wear are made of light, breathable material and have helped me stay cool. If you don't want to do dresses or skirts I would suggest a light weight short. I can't imagine doing any kind of jean material in that heat but, I have seen a lot of people wearing jean shorts. I also think about sunscreen, just in case that is a concern. A starter application of 15 or 30 and a couple of re-applying sprays keep a bad case of sunburn from ruining your fun times. A hat can help but, I usually just throw my hair up in a quick ponytail and then put on some shades.

In the past, my brother and my Dad have worn a pair of comfortable, light weight shorts (Most often Khaki). As far as shirts go, a t-shirt is probably most reasonable. My brother really likes the sportswear shirts (they make them for fishermen) they are made of a really light weight material and they are scientifically designed to keep you cool. They even have built in spf protection (above and beyond that of a regular t-shirt). SPF is a must. I have also seen men wearing ball caps and even wide brimmed hats and sunglasses of course.

Now that the obvious ways to keep cool have been addressed, I have a couple more suggestions.

2. Get a personal fan. That sounds really terrible but, I am talking about a hand held, battery powered fan. Get one before you go at Wal-mart (for a dollar) because a mister fan in the park will run you about $12. You will be glad! I carry mine on my camera bag using a climbing clip.

3. I found the Misty mate on a camping website. They require no batteries and can be refilled with fresh cold water whenever you want. They claim to lower your body temperature by 30 degrees and I would say that is fairly accurate. (I use the Misty Mate and the fan together. It is fabulous!).

4. Plan to take a break (or at least slow down) during the hottest part of the day. That sounds like common sense but, for some reason the parks seem to be crowded with cranky people at the hottest part of the day. If you are staying on resort you can use the EMH (see the DIS-tionary!) in order to make the most of the coolest parts of the day. Also, if you are staying on resort you can quickly go back to your room for a snack, some good old AC, or my favorite a quick nap!

5. If you are not able to take a break during the hottest part of the day, plan to ride indoor rides and go to indoor shows/attractions during this time. You can create free park maps (you decide the theme and what attractions go on each map) on the Disney website. I have created a map of indoor rides/attractions before to use in a pinch.

6. Plan on drinking plenty of water. Did you know you can bring your own water and food into the park. Yep, it says so. look.

7. Eat a Premium Mickey Bar. They cool you down and are AMAZING.

8. Visit Club Cool in Epcot (located in Innoventions West). There are free Coke product samples from around the world. They are pretty good and COLD. Just steer clear of Italy's Beverly...yuck!

9. Find a cool down station. There are many throughout the parks (for example near the Backlot Tours in Hollywood Studios there are huge coke bottles that shoot mist).

10. Many of the outdoor attraction lines will have outdoor AC (fans with misting). This can help cool you down while you wait.

11. If the day is especially hot, hit up a water park or Disney Quest (in door experience). There are two water parks on Disney property; Disney's Blizzard Beach and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon. By the way, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon is awesome. Plus using a water park ticket doesn't count as one of your park ticket admittance. It just counts as a water park ticket day. With a variety of cooling options and a small upgrade fee, doing the water parks or Disney Quest can cool you down.

12. Animal Kingdom has a bunch of shade so, look at the forecast. If the weather is going to be hot and sunny all day, visit this park.

13. You can always look out for a guaranteed 2pm Florida cool down. The rain rolls in almost everyday at this time. Just pack a poncho and get ready to cool down. Just keep your fingers crossed that the rain isn't accompanied by too much lightning or that it just sprinkles and creates a sauna effect.

That's how I keep cool. Now it is your turn. How do you beat the heat in the parks. Leave a comment and share your ideas.
