So, I am in the process of training for this half marathon thing. I am way behind since I just signed up. But, no fear. It will work out in the end I am sure. I have been noticing that I have been having a mental block when it comes to running. My body can handle the run (now I am not anywhere near the 13 mile range as far as body goes) but, I could totally do 3 miles no trouble. What the heck, I probably could power through to 5. But my brain is more powerful than my lungs and legs. And my brain tells the rest of my body to stop. And so I do. My brain is entirely too bossy.
I run with a team at my elementary school called girls on the run and I have found that running with the girls keeps me motivated but, since time is lacking we are only getting in about 2 miles per session. So, I started thinking today and I decided to put some Disney World music on my running playlist. In fact, I just flicked my finger down the albums until it landed in the "f's" and I clicked the album Four Parks One World. This is an album near to my park heart and it provided the perfect inspiration for a LOVELY run. I mean seriously delightful. I happened to be listening to the second disc which features music from Epcot and Hollywood Studios. The combination of the soothing sounds of World Showcase and the crisp autumn air of Irmo in the October provided me with the ideal situation for an amazing run!
I thought today I would share this strategy with you. I visualized myself running care free through Epcot. As the sounds of the France Pavilion sailed through my ear buds I stopped worrying about how fast I was going. I let go of lap counts. I ran and it was fun. Maybe this will work for you. If you are training for the Princess half then you should check out this album. It is the perfect inspiration!
Cheers and happy training!
